#OCAM2023

During Ovarian Cancer Month, we will work toward drawing attention to the world's most lethal gynaelogical cancer.

Ovarian cancer is a disease that affects women around the world, and it is one that is often overlooked and underfunded. Despite 51% of women not surviving 5 years after diagnosis, it is not as well-known or well-funded as other types of cancer, such as breast cancer. This is a serious issue, as early detection and treatment are crucial in the fight against ovarian cancer.

Knowing the signs can save lives. Read Siobhan's story...

This is where we come in, as we are working with OCRF (Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation) during Ovarian Cancer awareness month to bring attention to this horrible affliction that affects thousands of women every year and, to raise funds and awareness for ovarian cancer research.

One of the biggest challenges in detecting ovarian cancer is that its symptoms are often vague and mimic other common female complaints. Symptoms such as a swollen or bloated pelvis, appetite loss, feeling full quickly, tiredness, and unexplained weight changes can all be caused by various conditions.

There is currently no early-detection test for Ovarian Cancer.

With no early-detection tests and such vague symptoms, many women are not diagnosed until the disease has already progressed to a more advanced stage, which makes treatment much more difficult and diagnosis a death sentence.

The same ovarian cancer treatment and drugs have been used since 1992, and the need for new, innovative treatments is crucial. According to the OCRF, an early detection test could save the lives of more than 8,000 Australian women over a decade, or save 1.3 million lives globally over the next decade. This is a significant number, and it highlights the urgent need for more research and funding for this disease. Unfortunately, only 29% of women diagnosed at a late stage will survive more than five years.

What actions can you take? Spread awareness by sharing your story and using the #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth tag.

Also, donate to the OCRF to support their efforts in finding new treatments, managing recurrence, early detection, and prevention. Your support is crucial in the fight against ovarian cancer, so spread the word and make a difference.
